I have never heard of this. I'm still trying to figure out how you would use pectin to "glue" the cigar back together. The wrapper is a single leaf, and cigars are tightly wrapped. It would seem to me that all the pectin in the world wouldn't repair the split. Not only would you have to add something non-tobacco-y to your cigar, then you would have to have a way to apply pressure to keep the split sealed. Because 80% or so of the flavor of the cigar comes from the wrapper, using a cheapie wrapper kind of defeats the purpose of saving the cigar in the first place.

If it were my sticks, and I REALLY (really really really really) wanted not to toss it, I would use a cutter to cut off the split part of the cigar (say a few cm's below the base of the split), then smoke as normal. Being that they are 4X32's, though, that doesn't give you much cigar left.

I would toss the split cigar. Are they both split? To me, it seems like a lot of work for a little satisfaction.

damn, I would just light it, and see what happens.

I've had cigars with split wrappers that smoked just fine, others that came apart a bit, but most times they just need a little extra care while smoking.

I agree, I just smoked an AF Hemingway Masterpiece and Padilla 1932 Churchill two nights ago, both with cracks in the wrapper and both of them smoked great. Although, for the Padilla I ended up cutting the cracked part which was right before the cap of the cigar, so what mrtr33 suggested.

Is pectin natural tree sap? Or am I talking about something else. I was recently at a Bolivar rolling event and the roller was using all-natural tree sap to hold the wrapper together near the cap or tip on one of the barber pole torpedo he was rolling. At least that's what the General Cigar Co. rep told us.

That's right, the binder (normally much stronger/thicker) will hold the filler together. I usually ignore a wrapper tear unless it's sucking air.

Put your finger over the hole/rip and smoke it.

I'm interested in knowing the outcome, did you use Pectin? Did it solve the prob or did you go with one of the other suggestions?
