Also, let's make one thing clear. I ordered a box of cigars from TNT that they list as a $130 retail. They sent me a box listed as a $150 retail (these figures can be verified on their own site - they're not figures I invented). Yes, that's more, but the $20 difference is hardly going to be an example of them getting bent over and screwed. Hell, that $20 is probably what it would cost them to ship me a return label to send the Padrons back and then to send a new box of PI.
So ... to suggest that I'm royally taking advantage of TNT here by not saying something is, to put it mildly, an overstatement.
I agree that it's ethically a gray area. But as I said, I wasn't looking to start an ethics discussion. I just wanted some thoughts on the situation as well as the cigars in question. Most of the posters who replied were kind enough to weigh in with those thoughts. A very few preferred to go straight to namecalling, which is unfortunate.
You may now commense casting the first stone.
So what would you do if they sent you a box that was worth only 20 bucks less than the one you ordered? It's a 2 way street. Odds are, somebody else who ordered the Padrons got your order.
If you don't want to hear our opinions why did you post asking for them?
IMO you are a scumbag for taking advantage of a vendor like this.

Yes, I can see that. And I've thought about it. My initial reaction was to return the cigars. But there are a few differences between the two scenarios that I see.
1) If they send me a box that is worth $20 less, that remains their mistake. This is not my mistake. Having quality control in a warehouse is a big part of any business - I know. If you don't pay for that quality control, you end up paying in other ways. This is true of any business.
2) The cost of shipping one box back to them, and them shipping the other box to me would just about be the difference in the valuation of the two boxes (again, assuming we're going by retail price and assuming that their retail price is proportional in how much they paid for the cigars).
I realize you may not agree with my reasoning here, and that's okay. I don't mind people disagreeing with me here. What I do mind is people making sweeping judgements and bringing out the namecalling. It's uncalled for.
I did want opinions, and I got quite a few of them. It's the judgements I could do without.
And there it is. A pity I responded as I went along, rather than reading the whole thing through. I was going to attempt to make this a rational discussion between adults. You apparently have no interest in that. A shame.
aceswired, The only thing you don't care for are people telling you you're in the wrong.
I would've either kept the box and live with it, or tell the merchant and work something out. I'll not go public and ask for support from people. You're in denial if you think you haven't made up your mind long before you posted this topic.
A good book, a cigar, and a nice tall glass of STFU.
Fuck you and the trail of slime you slithered in on. If you can't see where you went wrong then you are a true idiot.
Pepole in our community have the obligation to be honest in their dealings with vendors and members. TNT ain't my favorite vendor but if you enter into a transaction honesty should work both ways. In your line of thought that ain't the case. Seems like I saw the word STEAL in all caps in your thread about the cigars.
Then you try to trade cigars that you got in the deal that favored you wrongly. Bet you got a lot of folks wanting in on that trade.
They you ask what you should do and you get an HONEST answer from Alan and you go off on him.
Good bye little man...Hope the door knob slams into your ass on the way out.
