I have to disagree with the auto-bailing on the forum. We pummled Hex pretty good demanding a self moderated forum. Told him long bedtime stories how thread deletion and member banning would send this forum into a fiery, hellish abyss and provided links to the Island as proof. Now, he doesn't jump in and perma-ban someone from the get go and everyone wants to bail on him. You can't blame him for being a little gunshy about just jumping in and perma-banning someone after the shit we tossed on the wall claiming banning people would kill his forum. Now this happens as he is about to leave town and we want perfect forum moderation instantly. I think folks should just calm down and see how it plays out.

I agree, what happened to self moderation??? That's lame bailing on the forum, it's not Hex's fault nor is it cigarsmokers.com.

Self moderation means making Manix feel so unwelcome he won't want to come back, sort of like what happened with SFG, no?

new guy here and i'm sure my opinion doesn't count but i agree with roham and shag. bailing is lame, it's a self governing forum site and we should just all ban together to make sure he leaves. you know they say rat are the first to leave a sinking ship and while what i've seen from you guys so far makes me believe you're cool i believe every good member should stay and try to fix the leak created by TCMM.

in a way i agree with seegar. 20% good 80% bad but my feeling is that this is the ratio amongst every race. people in general suck but, Sarge. SC I think you 2 are members of the 20%. that 20% however needs to stick around and get rid of the 80%

The self-moderated forum thing is a great idea but there are way too many people who feel Manix went SO FAR over the line, they don't want to have anything to do with a forum that he's allowed to participate in. It would be on thing if a couple of clueless newbie who like to think they know it all drew this line in the sand but when many standup, experienced guys like SamClemmons, Hugh Jorgan, cigarsarge and ggiese feel this strongly insisting on a permanent ban then it has to make us all wonder.

I have quite a few issues with this guy. First off, I don't think he has any clue how out of line he was and continues to be. Instead of a permanent ban, I think he should be given a lenghty suspension, something on the order of six months at least and once he's had a good long time to let his unacceptable behavior sink in, he should come back and sincerely apologize to the community immediately. I'm pretty sure that the veterans are fairly sure of themselves that Manix will only continue to be trouble if he's allowed back (just like Barney on CigarPass ).

One week is way too short of a period of time for a ban on this guy considering the degree of his transgressions.

Cigarsmokers.com is a member moderated community. We did not have a policy in place stating that making racist comments would get you banned and I don’t like enforcing policy’s retroactively...

Member moderated, IMHO, would mean that the members would make a call of banning or not banning, and you saw right from the begining, it was "off with his head" and you just let him off with a warning. And also, that policy, is on just about every other board. I'm not knocking this board, I like dropping by, but if you let him off with a warning, it just shows me, you pretty much don't care about the feelings of the black/gay/female posters... while I'm non of the above, it still makes me sick that you didn't ban him. Hex, I'm sorry.

What would you expect, SC - you keep sticking your nose where it doesn't belong. Posting in this thread about you thinking Manix having a 1st ammendment right to say what he said, and wanting to shake his hand if you ever meet him is what got you into trouble in this thread. Was what he did wrong? Well yeah, no shit. But everyone has the right to there (that would be "their", SC) own opinion. While this may not the the place to discuss such (add an "a") thing (and (add an "it") is not the place to discuss it) he should still be entitled to his opinion. I have grown to the sence (don't know what this is supposed to mean, but "since" is not spelled "sence") over the years that some of the people who are the biggest opposers of racism are the biggest racists. Kinda a "I'll stand up for whats ("what's") right to make me look good, but I'm not going to shop at that convience store owned by indians even though its closer and less out of the way than the other one." type thing. I'm not calling anyone racist- but I think that everyone is a little racist at some point in time. How many people here would have gladly sat next to a guy wearing a turban and had a big beared ("beard") in the weeks following 9/11? Most people do it on a subconcious level, most are discrete about it, dont let it show and go on living there ("their") lives like the other six billion people. Some share these opinions while in company of close friends, some make blanket comments while behind the protection of the internet. I dont think he should be banned for what he said, he did not direct the statment at anyone in person here, and he did go back and clear up what he said to something that did sound a little better - dont know if it was because he was feeling pressure from other members or if thats what he accually ment ("actually meant") to say.

You know, SC - maybe you're right. It's not that the reader is having difficulty understanding your words - it's what you are writing that is causing the confusion. First of all, I would concentrate more on spelling and sentence structure (a great place to check your spelling is here: Dictionary dot com . Then I would think about putting your thoughts in a more logical sequence. Finally, take out the sentences that are "fluff" intended to elicit a comedic response (being sarcastic). The way the above paragraph is written, it can easily be mistaken as tacit support for Manix - and I for one am having a lot of difficulty trying to see that you didn't intend it to be that way... So maybe I'm wrong - write it so I understand it...

Maybe you meant to say that Manix should write his posts more clearly? Or maybe you meant that he was forced to write something that was uncomfortable to him because he was feeling the pressure from other members and did not do a good job of it. I'm not sure. Either way I'm reading this to mean that we should give Manix some slack because he was trying to clear it up and he should not be banned (that's VERY clear in your statement). I don't see how I could misread any of that... And if that was what you're saying, even the follow up post Manix made was barely better than the first post. From the sounds of that post, SC - it appears to me that you would have been satisfied if Manix would have written a one sentence post "I'm not racist" and we could have all gone home happy... Very ignorant thinking, SC.

SC - I suppose from the YEARS you've been on this face of the earth, and all of the wisdom you've gathered over that great span of time, this would make sense to you... But fortunately I'm not in the same place you are. I suppose if I was filled with the wisdom and knowledge the years you had I may have a similar opinion, but fortunately I'm just a tad bit older than you and have had just a few more life's experiences.

Most important of all, SC - you are entitled to your opinion. But you better expect to get a good tongue lashing from the community if you post some of the crap you've posted (and the kinds of things Manix posted). If you don't like tongue lashing - don't come in here ripping on other members for their opposing opinions - think about what you are saying and decide if it's worth the inevitable beat down that comes with posting it.
