I've got Charter as well. I've forgotten my horror stories but they were similar. I think they just strung up fiber optic lines on my street a couple of weeks ago which means I might be able to get DSL.

I'm paying $40.00/month for one of Charter's slower packages. Of course they roped me in with some "special"

Well the weirdest thing just happened to me. I went over and hooked up my laptop through my parents charter connection and it worked, so, I decided to borrow their router that I hooked through just in case that worked. So I get home with the router and before I hooked it up, I decided to just try and hook it up directly again, just for shits and giggles. It worked. I am typing this message through my computer at home on my charter connection. Weird....seems to me that there was a problem with the line and charter fixed it. Oh well.

The bad thing about these internet/cable providers is they'll hire any idiot with a pickup and a ladder to do their install/service work. Lousy for customer service but cheap help I guess. It's all a raquet anyway.

I had some dumbass show up the night Isabel landed in Richmond at 5pm. Wife told him to leave the shit and get lost. It sat there for 2 weeks until the power came back. I snipped the incoming line, spliced it and ran a short run to my modem, works great and I wired the whole house and bought a router later.

Alright, well I have seemed to jinx myself. After I wrote the earlier statement that my internet was up and running, I went back to my parent house to return the router that I never used. When I got back I clicked on IE and nothing....my internet only worked for about 10 minutes. Damn It!!!!! So I am back to square one. Called charter....told them to send me out a new cable modem. Maybe a different style would work better since my parents have a different type of modem. The guy had me try all of the things that I have already gone through, I tried to explain that I have already tried all of this, but, he said that he needed me to do it. He put me on hold so he could consult with a few others to see if they could resolve the problem. I got disconnected and he never called back. So now I am really pissed!!!
